Attorney

For over 34 years, Steve’s legal practice has focused on solving problems.

Whether in a courtroom, arbitration, mediation, or just in meetings or telephone calls, Steve tries to use legal analysis, common sense and communication to resolve problems so the client can move on with their business or life. These problems frequently involve businesses or business owners, but also involve estate planning and securities issues.

Unfortunately, some of the problems cannot be resolved easily or quickly. In those situations, Steve is prepared to and experienced at going to trial or using other legal means to obtain a final decision from a Court or arbitrator. Steve has tried dozens of cases over the years, to both juries and Courts, and has participated in over a hundred mediations and arbitrations. That experience allows him to see the bigger picture in attempting to solve a problem for a client. In fact, even though he does not advertise his availability as a mediator, many attorneys seek him out as a mediator simply because of his experience and ability to help solve problems.

Following are recent experiences:

  • Represented a corporation in a complicated claim by a shareholder which included an attempt to dissolve the corporation.
  • Represented a construction company in an arbitration in which the company claimed it was owed several million dollars.
  • Represented numerous shareholders in an action brought by another shareholder concerning the operation of the corporation.
  • Advised numerous corporations on contracts and insurance issues.
  • Represented a manufacturer on a claim that production equipment designed and manufactured for its facility was defective.
  • Represented two partners in upholding the language in a partnership agreement covering the buyout of a departing partner.
  • Represented taxpayers in a dispute with the IRS over a claim by the IRS that active investment losses were instead passive.
  • Represented a taxpayer on a trust fund recovery penalty matter.
  • Defended a manufacturer in a lawsuit involving claims that former employees of the Plaintiff improperly brought trade secrets and other confidential information when they joined Steve’s client.

An Eau Claire transplant, Steve and his family have been a part of the community since 2006. He’s developed a true appreciation for Eau Claire and has served on a number of civic boards aimed at making the community an even greater place. Steve has served on the board for and as President of Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. and as a board member for the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce. In these roles, Steve did what he does best … help them solve problems.
