As chair of the firm’s Business Transactions Practice Group, Steve works with clients to develop practical, creative solutions to their most important challenges. He believes strongly in serving clients as a trusted member of their team focused on providing advice clients can actually use.
With more than 20 years of experience, Steve’s practice involves a mix of both significant intellectual property and business law representation, giving him the perspective across both arenas to better serve clients. Specifically, Steve’s intellectual property practice includes trademark prosecution, trademark counseling and portfolio management, e-commerce and intellectual property licensing agreements, copyright matters, and intellectual property matters arising as part of business transactions. Steve also routinely advises clients in several areas of business law, including commercial and corporate law, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions. He has advised many clients of all sizes in various commercial transactions, including the following representations:
- Negotiated and drafted complex intellectual property licensing agreement of a globally focused company in the process of spinning off several operating subsidiaries
- Represented publicly-traded company in the sale of its extensive timberland holdings over several years, including a single transaction in excess of $31 million
- Represented family owned business in the sale of its operating assets as well as related real estate for $20 million
- Advised and represented growing closely held business in acquisition of two operating companies and related acquisition financing arrangements
- Negotiated and closed several successive transactions involving the sale of both operational and non-operational industrial mills, including hydroelectric dams and related real estate holdings
- Assisted shareholders of a small company in negotiating, drafting, and implementing plan to buyout minority shareholder.
It has been said that “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Steve believes in the power of travel and enjoys learning about the culture, history, art (and beers) of many countries outside the United States. When not working, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and golfing poorly.
