Paralegal

Dawn’s legal career began with a mix of love for history and puzzles. As she pursued her Paralegal Studies degree, she approached her coursework as if it were an intricate puzzle, where each legal fact was a crucial piece waiting to connect to a real-world case.

She took every single legal course she could and found she had a natural affinity to litigation because it offered just the right amount of excitement to hold her interest. At Ruder Ware, Dawn provides paralegal support for Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Employment & Benefits. In addition, she uses her nearly decade of bankruptcy experience in her work with the firm’s Bankruptcy Trustee and Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights attorneys. Specifically, she handles:

  • Assist with preparation of discovery requests and responses, including eDiscovery
  • Assist with legal research projects
  • File affidavits
  • Prepare initial drafts of pleadings
  • Electronically file pleadings
  • Summarize deposition transcripts
  • Prepare trial materials
  • Provide paralegal assistance and provides support during trials in state and federal court
  • Assist attorneys with discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, worker misclassification, and non-compete matters
  • Assist with FMLA, ADA, and employment law compliance issues
  • Communicate with debtors, clients, opposing counsel, and the court
  • Manage and calendar a large number of litigation and collections deadlines
  • Draft legal correspondence and documents including motion papers and complaints
  • File documents with court and county offices and arrange for service of process
  • Prepare proofs of claims, motions for relief/dismiss
  • Assist in Ch 7, 11, 12, and 13 bankruptcy filings

After hours, Dawn can be heard spouting random quotes from movies and television shows airing in the 90s and later. She and her husband love tent camping and cooking over the open fire in northeast Wisconsin with their incredible rescue dog, Dexter.
