Trump Signs COVID-19 Bill Into Law!

At about 7:30 p.m. on March 18, President Trump signed a bill into law containing two significant leave provisions that affect nearly every small to mid-sized employer in the country. This law, entitled the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, or H.R. 6201, includes the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act and the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Act which we outlined yesterday.  A link to yesterday’s alert is here.

Please note these Acts will be effective no later than April 2nd.

On the local front, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has issued COVID-19 FAQs on unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, equal rights and other topics.  Click here, https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/ scroll down the page to click on “COVID” and you will see links to each FAQ.  I believe several of you will find the one on unemployment insurance extremely helpful.

As always, contact Ruder Ware employment law attorney for questions about this new law or any other COVID-19 issue.
