Steven P. Lipowski

Professional Experience

Ideas are worth protecting. No one understands this better than veteran intellectual property and business attorney Steve Lipowski. As a member of the International Trademark Association, Steve knows how important a brand is to a successful business. That’s why he devotes a significant part of his practice helping clients protect their brands, confidential information, and products. Specifically, Steve works with clients on intellectual property counseling, including trademark counseling and portfolio management, e-commerce and licensing agreements, copyright matters, and domain name dispute proceedings.

As chair of the firm’s Business Transactions Practice Group, Steve works with clients to develop practical, creative solutions to their most important challenges. He believes strongly in serving clients as a trusted member of their team focused on providing advice clients can actually use. In addition to his intellectual property practice, Steve has significant experience in several areas of business law, including commercial and corporate law, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions. He has advised many large and small clients in various commercial transactions, including:

  • Negotiated and drafted complex intellectual property licensing agreement of a globally focused company in the process of spinning off several operating subsidiaries
  • Represented publicly-traded company in the sale of its extensive timberland holdings over several years, including a single transaction in excess of $31 million
  • Negotiated and closed several successive transactions involving the sale of both operational and non-operational industrial mills, including hydroelectric dams and related real estate holdings
  • Assisted shareholders of a small company in negotiating, drafting, and implementing plan to buyout minority shareholder
  • Advised growing client regarding specialized financing opportunities related to proposed industrial plant acquisition and construction
  • Represented municipal client in USDA financed transactions involving wastewater and potable water systems expansion, including securing significant necessary real estate holdings and rights

It has been said that “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Steve believes in the power of travel and enjoys learning about the culture, history, art (and beers) of many countries outside the United States. When not working, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and golfing poorly.
