Summer Associate Program
Ruder Ware has an active summer associate program running approximately 10 weeks, generally from late May through early August.
We give our summer associates ample opportunity to work within each of our main practice groups, exposing them to the breadth and depth of legal services offered by our firm. We provide opportunities to handle real-time legal matters, not just legal research. This allows the summer associate to explore different areas of the law while also allowing as many of our attorneys as possible to meet and work with the summer associate.
Each summer associate is provided an individual mentor for ongoing support and feedback throughout the summer program. Although participation in our summer program is not a guarantee for future employment, each summer associate is given serious consideration for a full-time position with the firm.
At the start of each summer, the summer associates work with their mentors to establish goals for the summer. Depending on current in-house projects, summer associates could have the opportunity to participate in or work on the following:
- Client meetings and negotiation sessions
- Transaction due diligence and closings
- Pre-trial discovery, including depositions
- Pre-trial preparation and trials
- Mediation and arbitration hearings
- Drafting client letters, briefs, motions, contracts, and other documents
- Assisting with the preparation of client education and information materials
Summer associate recruiting begins with on-campus interviews of second year law students or other qualified candidates in the fall of each year. Ruder Ware regularly participates in annual on-campus recruiting at seven campuses including: Northwestern Law, Marquette University Law School, University of Wisconsin Law School, University of Minnesota Law School, University of St. Thomas School of Law, Hamline University Law School, and William Mitchell College of Law. We welcome the opportunity to meet with candidates from campuses not on our scheduled recruiting tour, those candidates are encouraged to send a cover letter and resume, via regular mail or e-mail, to Joe Mella, Recruiting Coordinator.
