Professional Experience:
Derek Prestin, an Eau Claire native, joined the firm in 2004. He concentrates his practice in intellectual property, business law, and real estate, primarily in the areas of patent law, trademark law, copyright law, intellectual property counseling, business sales, purchases, and transfers, contracts and agreements, commercial leasing, commercial real estate, and general business and real estate counseling. He is registered to practice in front of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a patent attorney. His experience includes:

• Preparing and filing patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Prosecuting patent applications from the time of filing through the issuance of the patent.
• Preparing and filing federal trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Prosecuting federal trademark applications from filing through registration and preparing and filing state trademark applications.
• Preparing and filing federal and state trademark post-registration and renewal materials.
• Counseling clients on a variety of patent, trademark, copyright, and general intellectual property issues.
• Counseling clients on general business law issues, contracts and agreements, the sale or purchase of business entities, and other commercial transactions.
• Counseling clients on commercial leasing and other commercial and general real estate issues.
